Through research and feedback from employers, Culverhouse College of Business instituted the UA Business LEAD program to increase competency development in CCB students. Surveys from employers noted that a student's skillset was as important as their GPA when going through the hiring process. Through the LEAD Program, students develop ten core skill competencies through academic courses and co-curricular activities. CCB students who started in Fall 2020 are expected to earn 250 competency points each year. They earn points by successfully completing three required courses and taking advantage of capstone experiences and career and professional development workshops and speaker series opportunities offered throughout the academic year.

As honors assemblies and scholarship presentations begin, The University of Alabama will be sending certificates via the mail to students who have received merit scholarships. It can be difficult to be sure students have the certificates for awards days at their individual schools, so UA will provide generic certificates to high schools to use at awards presentations. Schools may request these certificates at scholarships@ua.edu. Up to 10 working days will be needed for the certificates to be processed and shipped to the school. UA Scholarship recipients will also receive a personalized Certificate of Scholarship digitally through their myBama portal.
Awards presentations are special for students and their families. Regional recruiters will make an effort to attend awards presentations, if the school allows outside presenters, and if the recruiter's schedule allows. In a number of areas, alumni chapters have stepped in to assist with awards presentations as well. Schools should reach out to local recruiter to invite them to participate.

Several in-person and virtual events are planned this summer for students to learn more about UA and the academic programs offered for admitted and prospective students. Students and families may contact their recruiters if they will be in Tuscaloosa over the summer, maybe while heading to the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast or enjoying some golf on the renowned Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. If there is time for a stop on campus, recruiters can arrange a special tour.
CAMPUS TOURS
In-person campus tours are available Monday through Friday and include walking tours and driving tours of campus. Virtual information sessions and sessions featuring academic colleges are available for those unable to visit campus at this time.
SUMMER CAMPS
The University of Alabama offers a variety of fun and intriguing summer programs for students of all ages. Whatever a student's interests, there is a program for them!
SUMMER ON CAMPUS , UA EARLY COLLEGE
Students don't have to wait until their freshman year to stay on campus and attend college classes at The University of Alabama. The Early College Summer on Campus program provides students the opportunity to live in a residence hall, walk the Quad, make great friends and take two college courses at UA per term. This program is even available for current high school seniors after they graduate. The application is now open, and students have until May 13, 2022, to apply for Term I and/or Term II and June 17, 2022, for Term II only.

Bama Bound, UA's orientation program, is returning to 100% in person for the incoming class of 2022, including 21 2-day sessions for first year students and two 1-day sessions for transfer students. The program has been tweaked to allow for longer advising sessions with the colleges, implementation of a DEI session and a more interactive Rexpo (an evening program modeled around a wellness approach). A storied part of UA will come to an end this summer with the closing of Tutwiler (all women's residence hall built in 1960) and the opening of a new Tutwiler Hall adjacent to the current building. Plans are to implode "Tut" this summer, but the memories of the 13-story building will live on in campus lore. The largest female residence hall in the Southeast, Tut has been the first "home away from home" for many first-year female students. As part of the demolition of the old Tutwiler, bricks are being sold to help fund housing scholarships for new and returning students. While the old Tutwiler had double occupancy rooms with shared hall baths, the new building will have double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. Incoming residents may no longer need a shower caddy or flip flops. They also won't have to battle for one of the two elevators. The new building will have six!
